Nick walked up to Mich sullenly, rubbing his head where Jeff had hit him. He cringed before talking.
"What do you want?" Mich demanded. Nick looked at Jeff with a 'do I have to?' look and Jeff nodded.
"I want to tell you that I'm sorry for being so--rude to you," he forced out. Mich looked stunned. "I should have taken your feelings into consideration, and the fact that I was in the wrong in the first place."
"And just when I was beginning to have some respect for you," Mich told him.
"What?" Nick and Jeff asked in unison.
"And then you break," Mich added with a shake of her head. "How could you do it?" She began to walk away. Nick looked over at Jeff, as if looking for an explaination. Jeff shook his head then shrugged. "I don't know how to react around him now," Mich told Lindsey as they walked away. "I knew before If i yelled he would just yell back. Now what will he do, break down in tears or something?" She looked over at the wide smile on Lindsey's face. "Stop that," Mich whispered, a grin coming across her own face. "You'll ruin it." Mich turned to look at Nick for a minute. Nick looked confused as well as a bit angry. Mich gave up and broke down laughing. "I was kidding!!" Mich exclaimed, turning on her heels, Lindsey right behind her.
"What?" Nick asked again.
"It was a joke," Mich told him. She turned serious for a minute and looked a little guilty. "Thank you for apologizing," Mich said. "It meant a lot." This almost stunned Nick more than Mich's joke.
"Yooooou're--welcome?" he replied.
"I guess I was just kind of angry because I don't get to see Lindsey that much lately, that's why we planned this so far in advance. I'm sorry too for over-reacting." Nick nodded in acceptance. "I guess you guys just met and you wanted to see her a bit more before you guys left." Nick hadn't even thought about them having to leave. The information was like a blow, he almost felt like he couldn't breathe for a minute, but he hid it well.
"Ya, that was my thinking." He looked at Lindsey, who didn't even seem to be shocked by the news that they would soon be apart. Of course she wasn't shocked, she wasn't a stupid girl. She knew that they would have to leave soon.
"Anyway, I'm sorry too. I guess we can reset this for another date. We still have the rest of the summer." Lindsey nodded reluctantly when Mich turned to face her.
"That's really not necessary," Nick told her. "We can do something another time. How about tomorrow."
"We leave tomorrow," Jeff reminded. Nick's heart sank.
"Let's bring them with us!!" Nick suggested. "Mich, do you have to work tomorrow?" Mich laughed. "What?" Nick asked. Mich shook her head.
"Nothing. No I don't."
"Can we Jeff?? Hmmmm? Can we? Puh-leeeeeaaassssuh??" He jumped up and down, unconsciously, hands clasped in a begging motion. Jeff had to laugh.
"Won't we have to ask?" Jeff began.
"We'll sneak them on, who's gonna know?" Nick said.
"What about the concert? We won't be able to get tickets for them."
"Well," Nick began, trying desparatelly to think. "They could meet us back stage before the concert, backstage passes would be no problem, then after, since we screwed up their day today, they could do it tomorrow, while we're doing the concert. It's perfect."
"And just how would they get to the mall?" Jeff inquired.
"Duh, we get a limo, they can use that. And after we could go out for dinner, and do some other stuff. Whatever we want to." Jeff shrugged.
"Okay, but you guys better get permission."
"From who?" Mich asked. "I live with her." She pointed to Lindsey. "Can I go with these guys?" she asked.
"Only if I can," Lindsey told her.
"Well, you can," Mich told her.
"So can you, then," Lindsey told her. She shrugged and turned to the guys. "Done."
"But you guys came here with her mom," Nick pointed out.
"Our car broke down," the girls said in unison.
"And she was headed past here anyway, so she picked us up and dropped us off. We're taking the bus home," Lindsey finished.
"Alright, everything is set!" Nick said, turning to Jeff. "And you say I can't plan anything." He lifted his nose to Jeff and began to walk away.
"Yeah yeah yeah yeah,"Jeff said, catching up with the group who was rapidly getting away from him.
