Part eight:

Mich and Jeff sat in silence, listening to the radio in the limo. They hadn't spoken once to each other since either being told, or deciding on their own, to be civil to each other. Lindsey and the rest of them were just so happy not to hear the nattering that they refused to speak themselves, and obviously, no one objected. Nick sat with his arm around Lindsey, who was enjoying the passing view, which was just cars and buildings, but she didn't mind. She liked tall buildings.
"Wow, look!" Drew suddenly exclaimed, breaking the silence. "A limo!" Lindsey laughed as Jeff and Justin immediately shoved themselves into one of the limos many windows beside Drew. Drew turned on the speaker phone in the limo and dialed a number. It rang twice, and was picked up.
"Hello, April Clarke speaking," came a clear, feminine voice.
"Hey, April, babe," Drew exclaimed.
"Oh, Jesus, Drew. What in hell do you want now?" the voice on the other side of the line demanded.
"We saw a limo," Drew exclaimed, cheerily.
"Dammit, Drew," the girl exclaimed. "You are in a limo!"
"She loves me," Drew told Lindsey with a smile. "What got your nickers all in a knot?" Drew asked.
"I was in the shower!" April shouted into the phone. Everybody plugged their ears in unison.
"Hey April, sorry man. Calm down, you're on speaker phone."
"Oh, sorry," April responded, quieting down.
"Hey, April, the reservations have been confirmed, right?" The girl cleared her throat.
"Yes, Mr. Lachey, the reservations for the restaurant have been made, although it would be greatly appreciated if you could give me more notice. I had to pull a great many strings to get you that table. As for the theatre--" Drew dove for the phone and picked up the receiver.
"Hey, April. Ya, about the theatre thing...." Lindsey quit listening, and turn to Nick.
"Who's April?" Lindsey inquired, a little curious. Nick shrugged.
"She's kinda like our umm, personal secretary type. She goes on the road with us, and pretty much just sets things up, make sure every thing is good before we get there, stuff like that." Enough of April for now (no offence intended). Lindsey looked over at Mich, who was staring at Jeff with an odd look on her face. When she caught Lindsey looking at her, she looked away. Lindsey turned to look at Jeff. She watched as Jeff slowly turned his head to look at Mich. When he caught Lindsey looking at him he turned to look out the window.
"Goddammit, get a room and get it over with!" Nick suddenly burst out. Mich and Jeff both glared at him, blushing slightly. Apparently Nick had been doing the same thing Lindsey had.
"Do you mind!" Drew exclaimed haughtily. "I am on the phone here."
"Oh, Drew, leave the girl alone," Justin told him. "She doesn't even like you."
"Oh, ya, and the way you shamelessly chase Valerie, who has a boyfriend, MAY I ADD, is perfectly okay," Drew shot back. Justin blushed.
"She deserves better than that weasel," Justin mumbled.
"Enough!" Nick shouted. Lindsey was still looking between Jeff and Mich, who occasionally glanced in the other's direction.
"So," Jeff said.
"So," Mich repeated.
"Like the music?"
"There's music?" Mich asked. "All I can hear is Drew sweet talking that April girl, and Justin mumbling about Valerie." Jeff cracked a smile.
"Ya, they're pretty obsessed," he told her. "Here, I'll turn up the radio for you." Jeff leaned across and turned up the radio.
"Thank you," Mich said with a genuine smile. A new song had just started. "Oh, I like this song," Mich commented, beginning to sing along.
"Ya, so do I," Jeff responded.
"Oh, isn't this cute?" Lindsey said. "They're being social." Either they ignored her comment, or they just didn't hear, cause neither of them even twitched.
"I like the bass guitar in it," Jeff continued.
"Oh no, here we go," Nick mumbled.
"What?" Lindsey asked.
"Jeff and his bass guitar fetish," Nick clarified. "He plays it, he listens to it, he talks and talks and talks about it. Once you get him started, you can't get him to shut up."
"And you never told me this??" Lindsey demanded.
"Well, shit, if I had known it meant so goddammed much, I would have."
"Are you kidding? Oh man, all that fuckin yelling I had to put up with and it could have been over before it started!" Lindsey exclaimed. "Thank you very much, Nicholas!!!"
"I don't understand what the hell your problem is!" Nick exclaimed.
"My PROBLEM is that Mich loves the bass, and would practically sell her soul (I'm exaggerating) if someone would teach her. Every guy she has liked played the bass!"
"What the fuck did you want me to do?" he asked, getting a little pissed off at her. "Walk up, 'hi, this is my friend, Jeff. He plays the bass?'"
"Yes!" Lindsey exclaimed, a smile on her face. She groaned. "I'm sorry. I'm being stupid. I know you're not a mind reader. I just wish I had known." She looked over at Mich and Jeff, who were now talking quietly and smiling at each other like they were best friends. Jeff had his arm around Mich's shoulder. "See? Look!"
"Wow, that was fast," Nick said, a little puzzled. He was surprised that Jeff had taken to Mich so quickly. Mich turned to look at Lindsey. She had a large smile on her face.
"Jeff says he's gonna teach me how to play the bass!" Mich exclaimed excitedly.
"Is she....glowing?" Nick asked squinting. Lindsey laughed a bit.
"Probably," Lindsey told him. She leaned into his shoulder, and watched her friend, and her new friend, talk animatedly like nothing had ever happened.
